Nitrogen flushing is used in VFFS packaging to help extend shelf life and maintain product freshness. During this process, nitrogen gas is introduced into the bag just before sealing, displacing oxygen inside the package. By reducing oxygen levels, nitrogen helps slow oxidation and moisture absorption, factors that can affect product quality and flavor over time.
On select Unified Flex VFFS models, nitrogen flushing is offered as an optional feature integrated into the packaging cycle. The system delivers a measured flow of nitrogen at the filling stage and seals the bag immediately after, maintaining product integrity without requiring a separate process. This method is widely used for snacks, coffee, and powdered products, where freshness and shelf stability are critical.
